#PGRmaking Competition

#PGRmaking Competition

We’ve blogged about the numerous benefits sports can have upon your research, as well as the similarities you can find between working on a thesis and training for a marathon. However, there are other activities which can be beneficial to both your research, and your wellbeing as a PGR we’ve yet to explore.

If there’s one thing we learned from previous competitions, there’s nothing UofG PGRs can’t turn their hands to. We were in awe of your skills, from baking and knitting, to making jewellery, painting, and even creating your own colouring books, to name just a few of the creative pursuits you told us you enjoyed as part of #PGRSelfCare.

It's time to get making

In light of your many talents as PGRs, and to celebrate the launch of co.lab, UofG’s creative opportunities laboratory and pop-up makerspace, we’d like you to channel your skills as world changing researchers, and PGR creatives. We want you to craft your PhD. Whether you’re sculpting viruses from clay, printing your literature reviews onto tote bags, or transforming the results of your latest experiment into tie-dyed garments, we’d love to see it! Naturally, we’ll have some special PGR blog goodies available for all entrants, not to mention a £100 Amazon voucher, Thesis Whisperer books and more for competition winners.

How to enter

Make something inspired by your research, using any craft or medium of your choosing. Jewellery, book-binding, weaving, 3D printing, crochet...The options are endless. Why not visit the co.lab pop-up makerspace for some extra inspiration?
Post pictures of your progress and finished objects on Twitter and Instagram using #PGRmaking and don’t forget to tag us (@UofG_PGRblog) If you’re not on social media- what are you waiting for? Join us!
The competition will run from 26th October until 5th December. We’ll announce the winners in December at a prize-giving ceremony and exhibition where your finished objects will be displayed. We will also showcase all entries on the blog.

As ever, you can also email images of your PhD-inspired creations or send any queries you have to Cia Jackson

We can’t wait to see what- and how- you make your PhD!
